THE FOREVER HOME
The goal of this design is to create a single-story home that will be adaptable to the decreasing mobility of the clients as they age. The home will also be accessible for individuals of all ages and abilities. The clients desire there to be an emphasis on the kitchen, dining, and entertainment spaces in order to host guests and small parties. In addition to this request, there will be two guest rooms, a sewing space, and office space. One guestroom will be designed for three grandchildren of varying ages. The home will come with space to display quilts and antiques collected by the clients and easy access to all areas of the house including the two outdoor porches.

DESIGN PROBLEM
Design and create a single-story home that will be adaptable to the decreasing mobility of the clients as they age
RESEARCH
Aging is something that affects everyone. Therefore, it is essential to understand how to accommodate residential design for an aging population. Everyone ages differently, so adapting design for all abilities and needs will create the best user experience. Factors that may impact an aging individual include the decline or impairment of mobility, sensory processing, and cognition. Understanding how these factors affect the aging population informs better design for residential
homes for individuals of all abilities.
.
DESIGN CONCEPT: Quilting
The concept for this design is a quilt, which highlights the ideas of gathering and culture. Within the home, a large gathering space will include the foyer, living space, kitchen, and dining room. Each room will be its own unique space while still being connected with the other rooms. This will create one central gathering space much like individual patches create one large quilt. The home will also use texture, patterns, and light to create a sense of warmth and comfort. Overall these elements and principles will encourage individuals to gather together and will unify the home through design.
